On October 19, we’re making the graduated licensing program (GLP) more accessible for people living in British Columbia — while still maintaining high standards of road safety. If you’re in the GLP, here’s how these changes will impact you:

If you’re working toward your Class 5 licence, the second road test will no longer be available as of October 19. It will be replaced by a driving record assessment (DRA).

The DRA is an in-office assessment of a driver's record. For those under the age of 25, the DRA considers the driver's record over the past 24 months (or 18 months if they've taken an ICBC-approved GLP course.). For those 25 and older, it considers the driver's record over the past 12 months.

Bookings for the DRA will be available once the changes take effect in October.

On passing the DRA, you’ll have a new zero blood alcohol and zero blood drug content restriction (55) on your licence for 12 months.

We’re also introducing a streamlined pathway for customers 25 years and older that considers family responsibilities, employment and access to driver supervisors for mature drivers.

Starting in the fall, we’ll be sending letters to every customer currently in the GLP. These letters will outline the specifics of their licence changes.
